bb's story

BB’s mom woke up and found him walking around her apartment crying and trying to go to the bathroom. She took BB to Able Animal Hospital where he was treated for a UTI.

“Since BB was seen he has been his normal loving self. He loves to cuddle on the couch with me every evening. I was so scared when BB got sick. I had just lost my boyfriend the year before, and BB is the reason I got through it. The women from the Weirdos who helped us were a blessing. They were there for me anytime I needed to talk. The Weirdo’s group makes me so happy and has
helped make my life so much better. I love seeing all of the kitties on the page and the bumper stickers when I am driving around. ” -Marie McMasters

ninja's story

Ninja is one of our favorite stories, as he ended up with one of our amazing board members, Liane! Ninja had a long and tough road, but he's an amazing little man now.

Ninja was injured after an altercation with the family dog. His jaw was out
of alignment, possibly broken. He couldn’t eat or drink properly. The Weirdo Leadership offered to foster and transport as we looked for some sort of affordable way to help him. Three vets and two surgeries later, we were at our maximum budget and without results. Ninja’s jaw just wouldn’t stay aligned. The Weirdo leaders had to have a hard talk with the owner about options. She just wanted him to have a chance, even if it meant in a new home.

“Ninja was such a sweet boy throughout all of this. Never a growl, grumble or scratch despite his pain. Even his doctors saw how special he is. That’s when we went all in. There was a vet who was willing to take a look and try something she had never done. She was going to bond his teeth together to keep his jaw in place. However, true to form, Ninja managed to break apart the bond. I was devastated. Options and money had run out. Time was also a concern. After a lengthy talk, the vet was willing to try one last thing - a ‘button procedure.’ This is where they surgically place buttons to tie the upper and lower jaw into alignment in the hope that it would heal into a usable joint. Even then, Ninja lived up to his name and managed to slip his buttons, twice, and even nearly dislodged his feeding tube, requiring more surgical intervention. Fingers crossed it would work because we weren’t even sure. There were no guarantees. Ninja received around the clock care and by some small miracle, he healed. He went through some rehabilitation to learn to eat and to gain back the weight he lost.” - Liane Townsend

Luna’s mom discovered a mass on her belly. After Luna was admitted, she was sedated, her abscess was drained and cleaned, and she was given antibiotics.

“Luna is doing great! She hasn’t had a single problem since she was seen. She is still a food hog and lets us know when she doesn’t have a full bowl. She is a total lover! As for the group, my Luna would probably be dead without the help from all the Weirdos. It is really amazing how people helped me out. I am so happy my
baby is all better! ” -Stacy Michelle

Mia’s parents took her to Metro Animal Hospital after they noticed blood in her stool. Tests were run and the doctors found that Mia had a GI bleed. Mia was treated and sent home with medication.

“Mia has been doing great since her ER visit. She now has some chronic GI issues that are well managed through diet. Since then, Mia has moved to a bigger
house with her three little cat brothers. She has also
helped welcome her first human sibling, Judith. I
joined the Weirdos in 2017 because of my love of cats.
We adopted two of our current babies through their page in 2019. Then in 2020 Mia got ill and I didn’t know where to go. I was pregnant and been laid off due to Covid. Thanks to the Weirdos we were able to get Mia the care she needed and quickly! ”

Georgie was rushed to the vet for a urinary blockage. He spent the next few nights at the vet to get the treatment he needed. Georgie was able to go home once the doctors determined the blockage was cleared and would not return.

“Georgie has been good as new since we had that scare. I ’ve modified his diet to make sure he is well hydrated. I joined the Weirdo page to interact with others who share my obsession with cats. I never dreamed that being a member would end up saving my Georgie’s life. I will forever be grateful to the Weirdos! ” -Chrissy Starr

Nala’s mom rushed her to Westpark Animal Hospital after she found her in respiratory distress. Westpark found that Nala had a really bad asthma attack and would need to spend a few days there on oxygen. Once Nala was okay, she was sent home with an inhaler to help with her asthma.

“Nala is doing much better than before. She still uses
her inhaler, which is the same dose as mine so we share.
She also has topical prednisone to use as needed. Nala
loves her new baby brother, Simba. She has the energy
of a kitten, and is seriously the kindest, sweetest girl in the world. I am so blessed to be a part of the Weirdos. They saved Nala’s life and I will forever be grateful. ” -Mandi Blazek
